Student Agency

More than a buzz word or phase education is going through, student agency is here to stay. In this workshop we explore the three tenets that characterise student agency - voice, choice & ownership. Participants explore how to create the necessary conditions and how to plan for student agency across the curriculum.

Curriculum Mapping

Providing a way for teachers to navigate through the documents is the primary focus of this workshop. Working with curriculum documents and school timelines, we create a map of the curriculum for the future. Teachers are challenged to find genuine links across the curricula and map out accordingly.

Pedagogy of Inquiry

It is NOT a subject. Inquiry is a pedagogical approach and learning environments that embrace this have an unmistakable quality. Through this workshop, participants come to learn how to ensure inquiry learning occurs across the curriculum and not just 'after lunch four afternoons a week'.

Essential Elements of an Inquiry

The focus of this workshop is to explore what makes up an inquiry teacher's toolkit. We explore the essential elements that characterise an inquiry classroom and what doesn't. Participants explore areas including the classroom environment, planning skills and their role in the inquiry itself.

Curating Inquiries

Focussing on planning, particularly how to provide meaningful provocations, this workshop leads teachers through a 'how to' approach to inquiry planning. Just like baking a cake you need to ensure that you have the right ingredients, the method and the equipment to succeed.

Concepts in the Curriculum

Concepts are the glue that binds our memories and our anchor and reference points to so much. Identifying and learning to employ concepts in the classroom forms the basis of the learning in this workshop.

Conceptual Provocations

This workshop explores the essential role that provocations play in stimulating students and their learning. Where it differs is that the learning is geared around conceptual provocations. Participants learn the value of 'playing' with concepts and find the value in making the implicit explicit.

Questioning

Who is doing the thinking? And what thinking are they doing? Teachers ask their students around 400 questions every day! How many are worth asking? How many questions do students actually ask? This workshop explores ways to address the imbalance of questions and improve the quality of them.

Provoactions

Build it and they will come! This workshop is designed to grow teacher's confidence and ability to design learning experiences that hook their students in and whet their appetite for learning. I often wonder why we only try and provoke our students interest in learning for a new 'inquiry', and ask myself 'why not fractions?' In this workshop we look at provoking interest across the curriculum.
